Agenda Drinking Water sources may contain viruses, bacteria, protozoan and algae. Water treatment plant operators remove or inactivate most organisms before drinking water reaches the consumer. Attendees will learn where these microbes originate from, how they get into your source water and how they are removed or inactivated in treatment plant processes. Water distribution Systems may cause recontamination of safe, treated drinking water. Attendees will learn where these microbes may re-enter your water system and cause contamination events. Chlorine Disinfection is one of the most important treatment processes in a water or wastewater treatment plant and out in the distribution system. Water and wastewater personnel should understand the chemistry that occurs to better operate the chlorination system. Attendees will learn Breakpoint chlorination, how constituents in the water react with chlorine, chlorine residual testing, State and federal regulations regarding chlorine disinfection and how chlorine forms disinfection by products.
